Federal PELL Grant
Students seeking financial assistance may apply for this need-based federal grant by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The amount of the Federal PELL Grant grant varies for each student.
Governor's Merit Scholarship
This $5,000 renewable scholarship is awarded to every student in the top 5% of their public or chartered nonpublic high school graduating class who choose to attend an Ohio college or university (homeschooled students who score within the top 5% of applicants on the ACT/SAT). This critical investment in Ohio’s future encourages high-achieving high school graduates to remain in Ohio to pursue their post-secondary studies and contribute to Ohio’s expanding economic opportunities.
Ohio College Opportunity Grant
The Ohio College Opportunity Grant is available to eligible students who are residents of Ohio and is based on financial needs. To apply for this program, a student must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Choose Ohio First for Graduate Students
Ashland University has been awarded a grant from the state of Ohio to provide Choose Ohio First (COF) Scholarships to academically strong students who plan to continue their education or seek employment in STEM industries after completing a master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies, Business Analytics or Supply Chain Management.
Students can receive $3,000 per academic year for two years.
TEACH Grant for Undergraduate Students
The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant provides grant assistance to students who are completing coursework to begin a teaching career in a high-need field. The award is up to $4,000 per year with a maximum of $16,000 for an undergraduate degree.
To be eligible, you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
- Score at or above the 75th percentile on ACT/SAT or maintain a 3.25 cumulative GPA in high school and/or college.*
- Be enrolled in one of Ashland University's eligible programs in the College of Education.
- Plan to teach full time in a high-need field at a low-income elementary or secondary school.
- Plan to teach as a highly qualified teacher for four years within the eight years immediately following completion of the degree.
*To qualify based on your ACT/SAT results, you must score in the 75th percentile on any subtest of the ACT or SAT. If you qualify for the TEACH Grant based on your ACT/SAT scores, you are eligible to receive TEACH funds throughout your study, providing you meet other program requirements. If you do not qualify based on your ACT/SAT results, you may qualify based on your high school or Ashland University GPA of 3.25 or higher. You must maintain a cumulative Ashland University GPA of 3.25 or higher each semester to receive the grant.
These are the undergraduate academic programs that are eligible for TEACH Grants:
- Middle Grades 4-9: Math or Science must be one of your two concentrations.
- Grades 7-12: Chemistry, Integrated Math, Integrated Science, Earth Science; Biology/Life Science or Physical Science.
- Multi-Age Pre-K-12: French or Spanish.
- Intervention Specialist: Early Childhood Mild/Moderate/Intensive (Pre-K-3), Mild/Moderate Educational Needs (K-12), Moderate/Intensive Educational Needs (K-12).
To apply:
- File a FAFSA using Ashland University's school code, 003012.
- If you’re eligible for a TEACH Grant based on an ACT/SAT subtest score at or above the 75th percentile, submit a copy of your test results to the Financial Aid Office.
- Complete counseling and sign an Agreement to Serve each year.
- When you leave school, or if you change programs, complete Exit Counseling

IMPORTANT NOTE: If the recipient does not fulfill the requirements of the Agreement to Serve, the entire TEACH Grant received converts into a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan with interest retroactive to the date the grant was disbursed.
